The 2023 Futsal Uganda Cup started with a thriller as Edgars Youth Programme defeated Makerere University 6-2 at Old Kampala Futsal Arena on Friday night.

Edgars started off the game brilliantly and got their first goal of the game in the second minute after Makerere’s Elvis Odong connected into his own net.

Just three minutes after that, Waiswa Amiri doubled Edgars’ lead with a superb strike that oozed into the back of the net.

The score went to 3-0 a few minutes afterwards after Brian Olwa calmy slotted home from close range.

Before the break though, Katuramu Deus pulled a goal back for Makerere to ensure his side went into the break trailing by only two goals.

In the second quarter, Edgars’ lead got cut to just a single goal after Katuramu netted his second for Makerere.

But this was short-lived as Edgars responded with three goals in quick succession to win the game 6-2.

Firstly Ssemuyaba Joshua connected into his own goal before Olwa and Wambire Amos scored Edgars’ other two goals to complete the scoring.

With this victory, Edgars’ now take an early lead in group A that also has FC Luzira.

Action will continue next Friday at Old Kampala Futsal Arena with two group B games on the menu. Kabowa Dream Team will play First Touch Sports FC while ASKA will battle Friends of Football.
