Nigeria coach Peseiro resigns after TotalEnergies AFCON.

The Nigeria national football team is currently in search of a new coach following the resignation of their previous coach, Jose Peseiro.

Peseiro, a Portuguese coach, led the Super Eagles to the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in his first major tournament in charge.

Unfortunately, they were defeated by the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire. Despite achieving the Nigeria Football Federation’s target of reaching the semi-finals, Peseiro has decided to resign from his position. In a social media post, Peseiro expressed his gratitude for the “22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm” that he devoted to Nigeria.

He added that his time with the team had been a privilege and that they felt a sense of fulfillment. Peseiro’s appointment as the national coach was unexpected, and many people had doubts about his suitability. After Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, Peseiro took charge of the Super Eagles and implemented a pragmatic style.

Despite commendable performances, including a semi-final win over South Africa in a penalty shootout, Nigeria fell short in the final against Cote d’Ivoire, leading to Peseiro’s resignation.

Now, the Nigeria Football Federation has begun the search for a new coach who can build on the team’s recent successes and lead them to further excellence on the international stage.

Peseiro left big shoes to fill, and many people are calling for the federation to appoint a world-class coach to succeed him.
