Bulemeezi Ssaza Gears Up to Host Opening Leg of 2024 Buganda Cycling Championship

Anticipation fills the air in the Buganda Kingdom as preparations for the prestigious 2024 cycling championship are in full swing, set to kick off with the opening leg in Buleemezi Ssaza, Luweero, on April 14th.

This thrilling announcement came during a press briefing led by the revered Buganda Kingdom Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts, Owek.

Sserwanga emphasized the importance of the forthcoming championship, urging Masaza heads to ensure meticulous organization of their respective riders and teams.

He provided valuable insights into the championship’s itinerary, which includes competitions in various regions such as Ssingo, Ssese, and Buddu, culminating in a grand finale at the Ring Road (Lubiri) in Kyadondo in November.

To guarantee the championship’s success, a dedicated organizing committee, led by Mathias Lukwago, has been established.

Lukwago expressed unwavering confidence in the event’s prosperity and called upon sponsors to rally behind the initiative, recognizing its potential to elevate domestic tourism within the Buganda Kingdom and Uganda as a whole.

The organizing committee, complemented by Ahmed Ssemwanga Kabogoza as secretary and Isah Kimbugwe as the public relations lead, is working tirelessly to ensure a seamless experience for both participants and spectators.

Each of the 18 Masaza teams will be represented by three to six cyclists, competing across two categories: road bikes and ordinary bikes.

The races will encompass varying distances and laps, with the opening leg’s start and finish lines marked at Edema Hardware, Luweero.

In addition to the cycling championship, Buganda Kingdom continues its active engagement in an array of sports, including football, athletics, water sports, netball, volleyball, and traditional games like Ludo, Omweso, and wrestling.

This steadfast commitment to sports underscores the kingdom’s dedication to fostering health, well-being, and community cohesion among its populace.
