Title Tussle Intensifies: NWFL Super Six Crown to be Decided on Last Day

The race for the 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership Super Six title is heating up as teams prepare for the decisive final matchday on Sunday.

Matchday Four’s results have intensified the competition, promising an exciting conclusion.

At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, three teams—Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, and Bayelsa Queens—remain in the running for the championship.

Bayelsa Queens’ chances were dealt a blow after a goalless draw with Heartland Queens, echoing their results from the previous season.

An offside call nullified a 23rd-minute goal by Mercy Omokwo, and Heartland’s Uchenna Chukwu made several crucial saves, including attempts by Sakirat and Zainab Olopade.

The match ended in a draw, making the final matchday a must-win for Bayelsa Queens.

In the final match, Bayelsa Queens will face Edo Queens in a potential title decider, depending on the outcome of Rivers Angels’ match against Heartland Queens.

Rivers Angels enhanced their title prospects with a 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens, with Chiamaka Okwuchukwu scoring twice in the second half.

Despite a strong performance by Confluence Queens’ goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu, Okwuchukwu found the net in the 68th and 89th minutes, securing Rivers’ second Super Six victory.

Edo Queens triumphed over Nasarawa Amazons with a hard-fought 1-0 win, thanks to captain Suliat Abideen’s decisive goal in the 81st minute.

This victory placed them at the top of the table with nine points, followed closely by Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens with eight points each.

Confluence Queens (3 points), Heartland Queens (2 points), and Nasarawa Amazons (2 points) complete the standings.

Sunday’s crucial match between Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens could determine the title.

A win for Edo Queens would secure Moses Aduku’s second league title with a different team.

Bayelsa Queens, on the other hand, need a win and a favorable outcome in Rivers Angels’ match against Heartland Queens to clinch the title, possibly decided by goal differentials and goals scored.
