Gossip alert: Bevis Mugabi’s sudden exit from Uganda Cranes FWC

As the Uganda Cranes prepare for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria, they will have to cope without the services of Bevis Mugabi.

The talented defender, alongside striker Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru, has been ruled out of the initial squad selected by coach Paul Put for the crucial matches on June 7th and 10th at Namboole.

Mugabi, a key figure in the national team since his inclusion during Sebastien Desabre’s tenure, currently finds himself without a contract at Motherwell in Scotland.

Consequently, he has requested to be excluded from the squad to focus on securing a new deal.

Standing tall both as a center-back and right-back, Mugabi signed a two-year contract with Motherwell in 2022.

While it remains uncertain whether he will extend his stay at the club, he has attracted interest from various suitors within and outside of Scotland.

With over 20 official appearances for the Uganda Cranes and his involvement in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Mugabi’s absence provides an opportunity for Ronald Otti of BUL and Nelson Ssenkatuka of Bright Stars to make their mark in the national team setup.
