CECAFA Kagame Cup: Gor Mahia Drawn in Competitive Group

On Wednesday, the draw for the CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup 2024 was conducted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Gor Mahia, the reigning champions of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League, were placed in the formidable Group B alongside Al Hilal (Sudan), Red Arrows (Zambia), and Djibouti Telecom FC.

The tournament will run from July 9th to 21st at the Azam Complex in Chamazi and KMC Stadium in Kinondoni.

CECAFA Development Director Baraka Kizuguto, who led the draw at the Azam studio, highlighted the anticipated competitiveness of the tournament, given that teams are gearing up for the CAF competitions starting in August.

Group A includes Coastal Union FC (Tanzania), Al Wadi FC (Sudan), JKU SC (Zanzibar), and Dekedaha FC (Somalia).

Group C, regarded as particularly challenging, comprises former champions SC Villa (Uganda), APR FC (Rwanda), Singida Black Stars FC (Tanzania), and Al Merriekh Bentiu (South Sudan).

In the previous edition of the tournament held in 2021 in Dar es Salaam, Uganda’s Express FC claimed victory over Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets FC with a 1-0 win.
