Plymouth Argyle caretaker boss Kevin Nancekivell believes his gamers feeling some “guilt” over Wayne Rooney’s departure helped encourage their shock 1-0 win at Brentford within the FA Cup third spherical.
Head coach Rooney left the Championship’s backside membership on the finish of December and Nancekivell was in cost as they knocked their Premier League opponents out of the FA Cup courtesy of Morgan Whittaker’s objective.
“The gamers are most likely feeling a bit little bit of guilt after dropping the supervisor so that they’re feeling regret and wish to make up for the wrongdoings of this season,” stated Nancekivell.
“The final two video games, they’ve given every thing, they’ve caught to the plan, they have their blocks in, they’ve defended and had a want to defend, and it simply goes to indicate what you possibly can obtain when you may have that software.”
The victory at Brentford ended Plymouth’s run of 11 matches and not using a win and Rooney responded to the end result on social media by posting that he was “so joyful” for Nancekivell – who has had 5 separate spells in caretaker cost of the membership – calling him a “legend”.
The match in opposition to the Bees was Nancekivell’s final on the helm, with Miron Muslic taking up as the brand new Pilgrims boss.
“It has been a tricky interval. Whenever you lose a supervisor it’s a must to maintain the fort – which we have been requested to do – and I am happy we have been in a position to give the supporters some cheers,” added Nancekivell.
“The gamers needed to execute the gameplan and to a person they did that, they have been excellent and I could not have requested for something extra, it is right down to the gamers and no person else.”
