Uganda’s AFCON dream cut short despite win against Niger
The Uganda national football team the cranes managed to pick a 2-0 win against Western Africa side Niger in a tight encounter players at Marakesh stadium in Morocco.
Wing backs Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya scored in the first half as Uganda picked maximum points away from home but it was not enough for the cranes to qualify to the 2024 AFCON tournament after a goalless draw in the game between Algeria and Tanzania.
Despite the fact that Uganda needed a win to enlighten their chances of qualifying out of group F, they had to wait for the result from their East African neighbors Tanzania as they took on Algeria.
Any positive result from the Tanzania tie would ensure that the Cranes can’t match their tally in points hence failure to qualify out of the group stage
The taifa Stars managed to pick a 0-0 draw against group leaders Algeria which ensured them a second place finish in group F with 8 points ahead of Uganda who only managed to finish in 7 points after the Niger win.
