Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon Course Meets World Athletics Standards and Receives Certification
A monumental achievement has been reached on the journey towards global recognition for the Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon.
World Athletics, the eminent global governing body for athletics, has granted official certification to the marathon course, cementing its place among the most esteemed sporting events worldwide.
The exciting revelation took center stage at a highly anticipated press conference held at the esteemed Sheraton Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday, 16th April 2024.
The rigorous assessment process, led by Garvin Wright, an exceptional World Athletics route measurer and one of Africa’s select few Grade A certified measurers, concluded on Wednesday, April 3, after an exhaustive evaluation of the marathon route in Kasese on Sunday, March 24th.
This meticulous examination entailed precise measurements, meticulous scrutiny of the layout, comprehensive analysis of elevation changes, and other indispensable factors crucial to upholding the race’s integrity.
The Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon, now expanded to include four captivating categories – 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km – aims to offer something for everyone, encouraging active lifestyles, fostering community engagement, and creating a platform for athletes to showcase their exceptional skills and athletic prowess.
Notably, the marathon stands tall as the sole Ugandan-hosted event to gain certification from World Athletics, solidifying its status as a globally recognized and esteemed event further.
