Junior Gazelles, Silverbacks Crush Tanzania in U18 Qualifiers
The Ugandan U18 basketball program is displaying promising depth and teamwork.
Both the Junior Gazelles (girls) and Junior Silverbacks (boys) showcased their dominance in the FIBA Africa Zone V U18 Qualifiers finals.
The Junior Gazelles’ 100-56 victory over Tanzania was a testament to their well-coordinated offense.
Every player contributed points, demonstrating Coach’s emphasis on team play.
Resty Nanangwe’s double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds) led the scoring, while Modesta Anyango, Shiphrah Kiranda, Christine Namyalo, and Abigail Mpoza provided valuable support.
Tanzania’s Elizabeth Laizer and Namsifu Kimera offered some resistance, but Uganda’s overall teamwork proved too much to handle.
The Junior Silverbacks mirrored the girls’ success, achieving a dominant 104-41 win.
Similar to the Junior Gazelles, every player contributed at least 2 points, highlighting their deep pool of talent.
Brighton Galiwanga led the scoring with 16 points, but Mukisa Nkugwa, Peter Sserunjogi, Aron Makmot, and Tejan Rugette all played key roles offensively.
Rugette’s impressive 13 assists further demonstrate the team’s well-rounded skillset.
These convincing wins position both Ugandan teams for a strong showing against Rwanda in the upcoming finals, with a chance to qualify for the FIBA U18 African Championships.
