St. Mary’s Kitende managed to clinch four tittles at the just concluded 2023 FEASSSA Games held in Huye, Rwanda with all the four teams they sent at the Championships returning home as Champions.
Upon reaching the school premises on Tuesday 29th August, the traveling contingent received a heroic welcome as they presented their trophies to the Director Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa who hailed their performances after maintaining a 100% record.
“I would like to welcome team SMASK back from Rwanda and also thank the good lord for the journey mercies, it has been a long way from Huye. It was a masterclass performance from the four teams that represented us and all came back victorious.” Said Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa.
“It is a tough challenge as it needs alot of preparation to bring back the four trophies home as you very well know that the preparations start way back from the zonal levels, nationals and to the huge milestone of being champions of East Africa. This year’s achievement will go down the menory books and history of St Mary’s Kitende.” He added.
A very happy and joyful Lawrence Mulindwa rewarded the winners and the technical staff with hefty envelopes full of cash to take home.
He went ahead to ensure the coaching staff, doctors and all other technical staff on the team a salary increment after preparing the boys and girls very well. He also extended a one week holiday to all the participants upon return to school with also a pocket money token awaiting them on return to school.
“Preparations require investment and our investments start from recruitment of the technical staff who are experienced and we’ll trained, the coaches at the teams are all trained that’s why they are entitled to deliver results with the scouting team doing a great job as it takes courage to identify a player of quality who can match the standards of the school.”
“There will be a salary increment to the coaches, doctors and the ones incharge of scouting starting with the coming month. All the students who were part of the team in Huye will be accorded a one week extension holiday and they will also receive pocket money which is enough to take them through the whole term.”
St Mary’s Kitende clinched four trophies in netball, football, and basketball (girls 3×3 and 5×5) to return home victorious. They defeated Amus Collegiate 4-2 on penalties to win the boys’ competition after a 1-1 full-time draw.
In netball, they saw off competition from St. Noa Girls School Zzana as they win the finals 41-36 to claim their 19th tittle. They managed to finish top of the Basketball 3×3 round robin format before clinching a third trophy in the 5X5 category as they defeated Bernadette Girls 68-51 in basketball 5×5 finals.
